The story is told entirely through spectacular and highly authentic reconstructions of key events and battles, filmed entirely on location in South Africa and employing many hundreds of extras in authentic tribal and period costume.
Zulu Wars tells the story of the rise of the great warrior King Shaka Zulu, who forged a mighty nation on Spartan principles, and looks at his legacy. It reveals how increasing tension between the Zulu and the white Boer settlers led to a bloody massacre by the Zulus, who were in turn punished by roving Boer commando groups and finally beaten at the Battle of Blood River, here recreated in spectacular fashion for the camera.
The DVD also explains how the British were drawn into the conflict and features all-new recreations of the pivotal battles of Isandlhana and Rorke's Drift, the first a bloody massacre and the second one of the proudest moments in British military history. Western and Zulu experts both give thier accounts of the battles, supported by eyewitness accounts from both sides, and extraordinary period photographs.
