Created by Grange Calveley, the lovably loopy Roobarb’s boundless enthusiasm gets him into all sorts of hilarious scrapes – and he’s constantly hindered as well as helped by his best friend Custard the cat. Such has been their popularity over the decades that the green and pink duo were voted ‘Britain’s Best Animated Cartoon Characters’ in 2000 – an accolade that led to the creation of Roobarb and Custard Too. Of course, as well as the famously hand-drawn style the gently twinkling voice of the late Richard Briers CBE has a great deal to do with the show’s enduring appeal –it’s impossible to imagine Roobarb with any other voice!
