Charlie (Morgan Freeman) is a dangerous yet philosophical hitman. Tiring of his lifestyle he dreams of doing one last big assignment and retiring to sunny Florida. When Betty's greedy husband puts together a drug deal. Charlie enters their world. When Charlie and his protege (Chris Rock) are sent to reclaim the stolen drugs, Betty watches as her husband is skillfully interrogated and then shot. Traumatised, Betty flees to L.A. to find and be with her on-screen idol Dr. Ravell. Charlie follows her, eager to silence Betty forever and collect his final pay off. Nurse Betty is a dark comedy thriller, hilarious one moment, chilling the next, about two very different people who chase their dreams across America.

Everything in earnest, young Gilly Noble's (Chris Klein) life is finally going right. He's got a job he enjoys, he's marrying Jo (Heather Graham), the girl of his dreams, and he's just a step away from finding his birth parents. But all that comes to a crashing halt and a year later, after losing his job and his girl, Gil sets out to get back Jo and make his life right again. The problem is, Jo has become engaged in their time apart, and her wealthy husband-to-be and social-climbing mother (Sally Field) are not about to let Gilly take her back without a fight. Chaos ensues as our hero finds himself in one comical predicament after another, all this to win back true love.
